Are you committed to a creative industries pathway but not yet ready to leave school?
Study Fashion Design part-time and gain more design credits towards NCEA.  

Part-time courses at The Design School let you study design in a commercial style studio with industry level equipment but continue with the other subjects you love.

Course options - 30 weeks per year, one or two days per week, 9am-3pm or; one day per week plus one week blocks in each term holiday. 

Trades Academy options are delivered in partnership with Te Pukenga/UCOL. STAR options also available in collaboration with each school. Course options and credits can be custom made for each student and school.

NCEA Level 1 - FASHION Design

Qualifications
Credits towards NCEA Level 1

Entry requirements
Enrolled at a Secondary School.

NCEA Level 2 - Creative Industries FASHION Design

Qualifications
Credits towards NCEA Level 2
New Zealand Certificate in Art & Design Level 2 (40 Credits maximum).

Entry requirements
Enrolled at a Secondary School and have or be working towards the Literacy and Numeracy credits for awarding NCEA Level 2.

Who is the course for?
Secondary School students who would like to gain the Creative Industries Vocational Pathway with a focus on Fashion Design & Textiles.

FASHION Design – Level 3

Qualifications
Credits towards NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand
Certificate in Art & Design Level 3 (40 Credits maximum).

Entry requirements 
Enrolled at a Secondary School in Year 12 or 13.
Literacy and Numeracy credits for awarding NCEA Level 3 if NCEA L3 is the focus.
Have completed Design related subjects at level 2.

Who is the course for?
Secondary School students who would like to focus on Fashion Design for entry to level 4+ Tertiary study.

What’s in the course?

Students study a range of subjects including drawing, design thinking and critical thinking, fashion design & garment construction.

 

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the development of the fashion design industry.

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of technology in relation to design.

  • Apply basic design knowledge in various design activities related to Fashion Design.

  • Develop drawing skills using a variety of techniques and media used in design, including computer graphics.

  • Present design ideas using visual, written and oral skills.

  • Demonstrate the fundamental elements and principles of design.

  • Demonstrate basic competencies in garment construction.
